Engage…Equip…Educate…Empower
Who We Are
Excellence by Design Education Center (EDEC), a 501(c) (3) charitable non-profit organization, committed to closing achievement gaps of disadvantaged youths. EDEC provides programs and services that address equity in education to underserved and disadvantage youth in the Dallas Metroplex area.
Why We Work For Your Kid
According to the 2019 school report card, most of the neighborhood schools identified in our geographical areas are rated low performance in reading, math, and writing skills. In addition, community organizations report a need for external programs and organizations to collaborate with schools and the community to help motivate students to learn.
The Learning Process
Youth need support during the learning process. Learning differs across tasks, development, and among individual youth. The instruction given must vary appropriately to the individuals learning styles, strengths, needs, and interests.
EDEC collaborates with schools and community organizations. We provide extended educational and social development programs and services promoting:
- A holistic approach to academics
- Social and character development
- College and career readiness
- Life skills
- Intervention/prevention
- Leadership development
EDEC creates customized programs and services for youths based on data and needs using the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) integrated curriculum as the framework. Offering rigorous academic programs that align with TEKS, we help youths work toward mastery of the required knowledge and skills, reducing learning barriers. This framework allows collaboration with schools, community organizations, and parents to provide a strategic, holistic approach to programming and support that links school, community, family, and local and state resources.
Our Results
Youth who participate in E.D.E.C.’s programs will be prepared to meet the challenges of a college education and be on a path toward becoming active participants in our democratic society. EDEC strives to create a community of young people who are academically able, confident, and empowered to engage in society. EDEC offers co-curricular learning opportunities such as tutoring, mentoring, specialized academic camps, college and career readiness, and leadership development.
Investing in youth allows us to help shape minds, mold dreams, and build a bridge to self-sufficiency in a world where there is not just equal opportunity, but equity.
